Music Program

The Music Program at Discovery School provides a rich and diverse experience for students at every grade level. In Early Childhood, students are introduced to percussion instruments and enjoy singing along to various songs.

As they move into Elementary, Grades 1 through 3 explore different types of songs and learn to play the recorder. In Grades 4 and 5, students have the opportunity to play the melodica or guitar, while Grades 6 and 7 focus on string instruments such as the guitar and ukulele.

Grade 8 students dive into piano studies, and in Grades 10 and 11, the curriculum shifts to Music History, offering a deeper understanding of the subject. The program also includes the Jazz Band as an after-school activity, where students with basic knowledge of musical notes and instruments like the ukulele, piano, drums, bass, electric guitar, and saxophone can further develop their skills.

Discovery School's Music Program is both engaging and enriching, providing students with the opportunity to learn and perform. Students take their talent and learning to several competitions, including the ABSH (Association of Bilingual Schools of Honduras) Music Festival and the AASCA (Association of American Schools of Central America) Music Festival. Twice a year, students showcase their talents and growth: first at the Songfest in December and again in May at the Spring Music Festival.

Art Program

The Arts program at Discovery School fosters creativity through various activities such as drawing, sculpting, and exploring Art History and contemporary art. In Early Childhood and Elementary, the focus is on developing fine motor skills and experimenting with different materials. For Secondary students (Grades 6-12), the program emphasizes mastering techniques like pointillism, sculpture, perspective, pop art, comics, and more.

For Grades 10-12, AP Drawing (Advanced Drawing) is offered, where students create a portfolio centered around a chosen theme. The Arts program also participates in competitions, including the ABSH (Association of Bilingual Schools of Honduras) Art Festival and the AASCA (Association of American Schools of Central America) Art Festival.
